The Engineers Identification Card - Introduction
The Engineers Rules 2019, Rule No 10 (1), requires the Board to issue engineers with an Identification Card. The need for an identification card arose from the realization that there was no mechanism for engineers to easily identify themselves to the public or relevant authorities especially when providing services outside an office environment.
EBK Identification Card
Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) has acquired a card printer, to facilitate the timely production of the engineers’ ID once an application is made. The engineers’ ID is a contactless smart card with in built chip and high storage capacity. The ID bears the engineers’ details, passport photo and a QR code that is linked to the Board’s database, easily retrieving information once scanned.
Benefit of EBK Identification Card
- The smart card will be your identification card as provided for in the Engineers Rules. This will help to easily weed out persons not licensed to practice as engineers. The public will be sensitized on this important identification document.
- Easy access to Boards services, e.g. You will be able to avoid long queues at registration desks during the Board activities by simply swiping or scanning your card.
- Contactless card allowing for rapid, seamless transactions without physical contact, reducing wait times and improving user experience
- Built in chip with high storage capacity, allowing for secure storage of multiple applications and user-specific data, allowing for complex systems and future expansion e.g. creation of wallets for which engineers can use to pay for services/events
- Simplified application and immediate issuance.
- The Card will be configured to be scalable and compatible with all the Boards systems.

Passport Photo Guidelines
The passport photo is an essential part of your identification card. The quality of the photo will facilitate your easier identification whenever the need arises.
The following attributes your photo will aid the incorporation of a good quality photo into the identification card:
Photo style
- Orientation: facing forward and looking straight at the camera
- Facial Expression: neutral expression and with the mouth closed (no smiling, frowning or raised eyebrows)
- Eyes: Eyes open and clearly visible (no glasses and no “red eye effect”).
- Head gear: None expect for religious beliefs or medical reasons
- Free from other obstructions: No other objects or people in the photo
- Clarity: No shadows on the photo
Photo quality
- Background : Plain cream or plain Grey background
- Focus : Be clear and in sharp focus
- Be recent: taken within the last month
- Color: Colored photo, not creased, torn or marked in any way
